Deer Lake, Newfoundland and Labrador

I am a professional artist working both in traditional print practise and in fibre art. I have been creating work for 30 years. I was born and raised in Southern Alberta to second generation Canadian parents. My maternal grandparents were English and my paternal grandparents were Norwegian. Both sets of grandparents obtained Canadian citizenship. I was strongly influenced by their immigrant experience; it was important to them that cultural traditions and heritage were understood and recognized. I left Southern Alberta at the age of 21 and relocated to Newfoundland to enter Memorial University. I studied English Language and Literature and obtained degrees in English, high school eduction and in 1992, fine art. I have travelled extensively doing residencies in printmaking and fibre art. I believe it added much to my understanding of how different cultures accept and interpret art practices. I continue to produce work that it affected by my experiences both as a prairie child and a Maritime Adult and continue to explore the rich diversity of cultural connections and diversity.
